The challenge - Maintaining connectivity through rural Australia and New Zealand

OneSchool Global operates over 120 campuses with nearly 10,000 students across 20 countries. Students at all schools across the globe rely on the company’s fleet of leased buses to get to and from school. These buses travel through rural areas, and bus rides can be over an hour long. OneSchool Global wanted to enhance the students’ educational experience by offering internet service on the buses so students can take advantage of their long commute to do homework.

Students needed a seamless access experience during each commute. Nonexistent internet access in these areas posed a challenge. To bring access to the buses, OneSchool Global required mobile Wi-Fi access points and a way to easily manage them. These devices had to be straightforward to deploy and configure, with support for 20 or more users at once.

The solution - Deployable devices and remote management

OneSchool Global reached out to Inseego to inquire about options, and the rest is history. Inseego’s 5G MiFi devices and Inseego Connect provided the combination of features OneSchool Global needed to successfully provide Wi-Fi on its buses in Australia and New Zealand, ultimately deploying approximately 300 devices across the two countries.

The devices aren’t hardwired to the buses and so they are well-suited to operate in a leased fleet. That also reduces risk of theft, since they can be removed from each bus at the end of each day and reconnected in the morning with ease. A cost-effective solution with 5G capabilities as well as 3G and/or 4G fallback, the MiFi devices support the breadth of cellular environments they need to operate in but at an efficient price point. Support for remote management means OneSchool Global can roll settings out to multiple devices at once, eliminating the need to manually configure each one.

Inseego Connect provides the single-pane-of-glass view needed for time- and cost-effective remote management. Setting up devices, tracking inventory, and even troubleshooting is managed remotely. The multi-tenant licensing, a one-off cost rather than recurring billing, means that OneSchool Global can set up multiple instances for different regions. Devices in New Zealand can only feed into the New Zealand instance, and those in Australia feed into the Australian network, so individual regions can be customized with settings and configurations that suit their particular needs and situations.

The results - Seamless, uninterrupted connectivity

With straightforward deployment and management, OneSchool Global has been able to expand its rollout of Wi‑Fi on buses. Ongoing support from Inseego has enabled the company to effectively and quickly troubleshoot any issues that have arisen, ensuring that students’ access to high-quality internet remains uninterrupted. With the ability to track data usage across all devices, OneSchool Global can maximize the efficiency of all deployed devices and ensure they aren’t going over network traffic allowances.

The Inseego mobile access solutions provide students with reliable and seamless access to internet from the moment they leave school to the moment they get home, ensuring the best possible opportunity to take full advantage of their long commutes.
